Proton Holding is planning to launch the Proton X70 SUV variant – which is developed on the basis of Geely Automobile’s Boyue SUV – in November. However, since the order was opened on September 8 until October 17 yesterday, the SUV has ordered more than 10,000 units.
As reported by the Bernama news agency and the News Straits Times website on Saturday (10/27/2018), the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Proton, Li Chunrong, said the number of orders exceeded the company’s estimates. Interestingly, of the total number of orders, nearly 2,000 were delivered online.
This fact, continued Li, shows that Proton has made the right decision in developing and launching the product.
“We thank all Malaysians for the support they have given to Proton since we began accepting bookings for Proton X70. Although we need to control the flow of information before launch, the response is very encouraging because we have received more than 10,000 bookings with those placed online through our booking platform exceeding our expectations, “Li said.
Previously, citing the contents of the agreement between Proton Holding and Zhejiang Geely Holding, Paultan.org reported that Proton had obtained permission from Geely – owner of 49.9% of Proton’s shares – to use intellectual property from the manufacturer from Taizhou, Zhejiang, China.

“The agreement (with Geely) covers the use of the design, development, manufacture, sale, marketing and distribution of the three models. The agreement also mentions giving approval for Proton to market the models to Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. The license period is given for 10 years, “wrote Paultan.
